Services for Institute of Security Studies

For Institute of Security Studies (ISS), a wide range of services were performed.

These services included evaluation and analysis of the Institute for Security Studies' primary online audiences and target demographics, the development of the web architecture and sitemap for a new site, site graphics and user interface design and coding, organization and formatting of some content for the website, instruction on basic web editing for site updates and alteration, and consultation on basic search engine optimization.

Design of the site was done to provide some consistency between the ISS site and the UNLV website, which can be seen in areas such as the top banner, while also creating a unique identity befitting an organization focused on Security. At the time of the creation of the site, ISS had leeway to have its own look separate from that of UNLV since it was considered somewhat of a separate entity. One aspect of the creation of the new ISS site was that especially since it was related to an educational institution it needed to meet ADA standards and be accessible to a wide range of audiences with varying levels of accessibility needs. Additionally, it was coded semantically and to current web standards while providing a clean, modern look with capabilities for multimedia and frequent updating and cross browser compatibility. Coding was done using XHTML, CSS and JavaScript, and designed to degrade gracefully.

Beyond the creation of the various elements of the site itself, consultation was given on content creation techniques for better search engine rankings. As content was being created in-house at ISS, and the site was handed off with dummy text, and consultation was also given on how to update the site with content and how to perform basic tasks like adding title tags to links appropriate to the pages to which they pointed.

(Please, note, due to University level web policy requirements and organizational restructuring, the ISS site has since been changed to fit the UNLV template.)
