This screenshot shows the introductory section of the webcard, which appears after a short, skippable, splash video. Upon reaching this page the viewer is greeted by Lisa, who sits in the center of the viewport and gives an overview of what the webcard offers.
This screenshot shows the same introductory section of the webcard as the previous shot. In this image, you can see Lisa pointing out the various links that the viewer can click on to navigate the webcard.
This screenshot shows an example of what happens when a user is about to click on a link that will take them to an external website separate.
The video for the ‘See the Sights’ section of the webcard is motion design spot used to showcase the sites and energy of the UNLV campus. It was created by altering and manipulating photographs taken around the UNLV. In addition to the basic image and video editing, I created some illustrations, of which a portion of one can be seen above. To further enhance the video, I edited a music track to fit the duration of the visual design.
This screenshot shows the video a few frames later after the illustrated design portion of the video has transitioned into the nonillustrated section.
This image shows the second major section of the webcard after the viewer has clicked on a link indicating their desire to ‘Be a Rebel’.
This image shows that the viewer has clicked the button at the center of the viewport, as can be seen in the previous image, indicating that they wanted Lisa to return and provide them with an overview of this section of the webcard.
As part of student recruitment efforts for UNLV, a distributable CD (WebCard) was developed to mail, hand out at recruitment events and on-campus, and to put online. The project incorporated a wide variety of tasks, including project management, casting, film shoot oversight, video editing, motion design work, sound and music editing, and development of the interactive deliverable. Additionally, analytical methods to track recruitment efforts were developed and implemented through a variety of methodologies. Along with Flash and Actionscript being used in the interactive delivarable, the design and coding of web pages using XHTML and CSS had to be done.
To see some example pages of the webcard created for UNLV Admissions & Recruitment, please see above…
(As a note, the Webcard was created in partnership with another individual at UNLV who oversaw such tasks as textual content gathering and generation, meeting organization, logistics regarding the video shoots, physical production of the webcard and materials for mail distribution, and other elements. Additionally, the creation of the Webcard required interaction with a wide range of groups, from outside videography firms and photographers to stakeholders in UNLV recruitment, admissions and student life.)
UNLV Admissions and Recruitment “offers preadmission counseling, assistance with completing the application for undergraduate admission, and information on how to pay for your tuition and fees through financial aid and scholarships.” —overview from UNLV Admissions.
This site was created using a form of HTML5, some CSS with bits of CSS3 thrown in, and JavaScript with some help from JQuery.
